During the autumn of 1914 and the well-known Battle of Kolubara, the
Austro-Hungarian army committed atrocious crimes against the civilian
population on the territory of Mačva. After the war, a charnel house was
built in Prnjavor, where bones of the innocent peasants, women and
children were buried and sanctification was done on the 5th November
1922 with the attendance of a great number of people from Prnjavor and
surrounding areas, gathered there to pay homage to the victims. After
the church lity procession to the charnel house and military honour were
done, the Bishop of Šabac Mihailo made a speech at the ceremony together
with doctor Archibald Reiss, who as a member of the International Court
investigated these crimes back in 1915, and the journalist and reserve
officer Ljuba Taušanović.
